![]() It was named one of the 10 best releases of the year by the Minneapolis Star & Tribune and awarded 4 ½ stars from Downbeat Magazine. In 2011 Davina released her first full length, all-original album, Black Cloud. With influences ranging from Fats Domino and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band to Aretha Franklin and Tom Waits, the band is converting audiences one show at a time, from Vancouver to Miami and across Europe. ![]() You’ll have a blast singing along with Davina to your holiday favorites.ĭavina Sowers and the Vagabonds have created a stir on the national music scene with their high-energy live shows, level A musicianship, sharp-dressed professionalism, and Sowers’ commanding stage presence. All in all, decent cartoon but not great. The incomparable Davina returns to The JAI for two fun holiday-themed shows like no other! Davina and the Vagabonds have created a stir on the national music scene with their high-energy live shows, top musicianship, sharp-dressed professionalism, and Sowers’ commanding stage presence. The efficient pacing help keep 'Morning Noon and Night' consistently engaging. The supporting characters are decent enough, while the voice acting suits the characters and cartoon well. Every bit as good and even better is the music, which is full of energy and lyrical elegance, and accessible to anybody. The animation is still incredibly good, the detail is immaculate, there are the typical imaginative moments and everything is beautifully drawn. Betty telling how to deal with bullies is invaluable and avoids being too preachy or patronising, even if it's something that isn't that new for us. The story is very thin, even for a cartoon with Betty Boop, and while cute 'Morning Noon and Night' again for a cartoon featuring Betty is pretty safe and tame and in the few sporadic parts it's only amusing. ![]() Although sadly she is basically a supporting character with not much to do, her appearance still epitomises charm, sensuality and the adorable factor. The character of Betty Boop, one of their most famous and prolific characters, may not be for all tastes and sadly not as popular now, but her sex appeal was quite daring for the time and to me there is an adorable sensual charm about her. Their visual style was often stunning and some of the most imaginative and ahead of its time in animation. Fleischer were responsible for some brilliant cartoons, some of them still among my favourites. SAtill a good cartoon in many ways and not deserving completely of its reasonably forgotten status, in comparison to most Betty Boop cartoons. Not one of the best Betty Boop cartoons, not by a long shot. ![]() If there is any reason to see this one, it's the music, but I suggest you just listen to the record instead. Usually, these were superior to this one here. This duel between two animals is something that (also with these protagonists, look at Sylvester vs Tweety) was used in cartoons many times on other occasions. It is all about birds versus cats and from the way the characters are animated (good vs evil), you can see that Fleischer clearly wanted the audience to side with the birds. The reason may be that Betty is really just a minor supporting player in here and the cartoon would have been basically the same without her. But despite the inclusion of David Rubinoff playing the violin, this never made it among the really most famous Betty Boop cartoons. It is another of the many Betty Boop cartoons from Fleischer studios and for some of these, they actually got renowned musicians providing the soundtrack during the early days of sound film. "Morning, Noon and Night" is a 7-minute animated short film from 1933, so this one is also almost 85 years old.
